He has a self-published CD and posts alot of Nazareth recordings on and YouTube. Ressurecting alot of his more obscure pieces. There is a fellow, I think he's in Argentian, by the name of Alexandre Dias who is a one-man Nazareth library. It must have reminded Joshua Rifkin in the same way because he made a wonderful CD called Rags and Tangos, playing the music of Nazareth, James Scott and Joseph Lamb (probably leaving out Joplin because he had already recorded so much of that before.) This CD was my into to Nazareth, but I can't say I've been all that successful in playing him. If you can play Joplin well, you will easily manage these pieces, too. Of course, this is Brazilian music, but it is clearly a melange of many different influences as were Joplin's pieces. It reminds me a lot of Joplin's ragtimes, just different in quite a few ways: the rhythm, the melodic development, and the harmonies. 3 (Albéniz) * Cielo de encantos (Campos) * El velorio (Cervantes) * La tarde está amorosa (Cervantes) * Los tres golpes (Cervantes) * Tango (Hinson) * Solace (Joplin) * Duvidoso (Nazareth) * Espalhafatoso (Nazareth) * Famoso (Nazareth) * Fon-fon (Nazareth) * Garôto (Nazareth) * Matuto (Nazareth) * Odeon (Nazareth) * Ranzinza (Nazareth) * Remando (Nazareth) * Sagaz (Nazareth) * Malgré tout (Ponce) * Tango, Op. Written for late intermediate to early advanced level pianists, both are included here, along with four other tangos, two waltzes, and a charming polka, "Ameno resedá". His tangos "Brejerio" and "Odeon" were immensely popular during his lifetime and continue to be two of the most popular pieces ever written by a Brazilian salon composer. I happened to run across these books on the Alfred site when I was searching for some other pieces (which I did not find) the other day. Thanks for the post on Nazareth's tangos. One needs to have a solid technique to elegantly present them. Nazareth's pieces are actually not that easy to play, I think. However, there is a certain cultural beauty and a unique voice that shines through that to me sounds great and inspires my playing. It's not as dense and intricate as, say, a Hindemith sonata. Some might argue this music is not on a par with hard-core classical music, and you might be right. I especially love a tango piece entitled "Matuto." This music is lively, vivid, agile, with beautiful melodic gems cropping up more often than not. Their tango appeal is quite unique, though.

I had bought the volume many, many years ago, but was then technically unable to efficiently sightread through them and so filed it away, being preoccupied with other music at the time. I just stumbled on a little volume with about 10 Tangos for solo piano by Ernesto Nazareth.
